Autonomous AI Agents Used to Breach Over 1,200 Company Websites in Observed Campaign
A security researcher observed a campaign in which autonomous AI agents, directed by Chinese-speaking criminal operators, breached company websites with minimal human intervention. The attackers targeted more than 1,200 sites and successfully compromised the web presence of more than 100 companies, including farm-equipment maker Deere and an unnamed appliance company. The breaches were possible because the operators left their control panels exposed on the internet, allowing the researcher to monitor the activity in real time.
