Tricky 'SynkLoader' Multitoolink Camera Malware Distribution Campaign

According to a report from Dark Reading published on August 24, 2026, security researchers have identified SynkLoader as a new and advanced multilingual malware family. The malware is distributed by unidentified threat actors who have compromised legitimate Reolink security camera firmware, using the device as a vector to deliver the payload to target networks.

The SynkLoader multitool brings back a technique from earlier threat eras: screen hijacking. By seizing control of the display, the malware is able to capture credentials entered by users with a high degree of effectiveness. In addition to this core capability, the family includes a slew of novel features designed for evasion and persistence, making it a versatile tool for threat actors.

While the report does not attribute the campaign to a specific threat group, it notes that the combination of screen hijacking and novel evasion techniques may serve as a precursor to ransomware attacks.
