Shai-Hulud Infostealer Worm Expands Scanning to 469 Credential Locations Across Developer Environments

In early August 2026, GitGuardian researchers discovered a new variant of the Shai-Hulud infostealer worm that has evolved to scan for credentials across 469 locations within developer environments. This represents a significant increase from earlier variants that only checked 189 paths.

The expanded scanning capability encompasses developer environments, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tooling, cloud configurations, and even AI tool configs.
